We are dedicated to facilitating a seamless educational journey for all our students, regardless of their native language. Understanding and communicating in English is essential for success in our academic programmes, which are conducted entirely in English.
This page provides detailed information about the English language requirements for our diploma and degree programmes, including transitions to partner universities. Whether you are just starting your academic journey with us or looking to advance towards a degree, it’s essential to understand these requirements to ensure you can fully engage with and benefit from our educational offerings.
MINIMUM CEFR LEVEL REQUIRED - B2 (Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking): At LIBT, proficiency in English is crucial for academic success. Our diploma programmes require a minimum of CEFR Level B2 in all components. To learn more about the CEFR levels and their entails, please click here.
TYPES OF ENGLISH TESTS ACCEPTED: Applicants must demonstrate their English proficiency by achieving the required level through a ‘Secure English Language Test’ (SELT). Please view the list of tests recognised as SELTs by LIBT here.
ALTERNATIVE ENGLISH PROFICIENCY PROOFS ACCEPTED: If you have undertaken an English language test with another reputable provider, you are encouraged to submit your results certificate to our admissions team at enquiries@libt.co.uk. We will consider these results as part of our assessment of your English language abilities.
EXEMPTION CRITERIA: Students who have completed their previous studies in English may not be required to submit a SELT (Secure English Language Test). To qualify for this exemption, applicants must provide official documentation or certificates from their previous educational institution confirming that the medium of instruction was English.
PROCEDURE FOR EXEMPTION: If you believe you qualify for an exemption based on your previous studies, please submit the necessary proof and your application. Our admissions team will review the documentation to verify that the level and extent of English used in your prior studies meet LIBT’s standards for language proficiency.
PLEASE NOTE: This exemption applies only if your previous studies were conducted entirely in English and the institution is recognised by LIBT. Specific courses may have additional or higher language requirements, which must still be met as outlined on our course pages.
DEGREE PROGRAMMES AND UNIVERSITY TRANSITIONS: English proficiency requirements may apply if you are considering progressing to the final year of a degree programme through one of our facilitated transitions to partner universities.
Each university determines its requirements independently. Universities may require proof of English proficiency, often through standardised tests like the IELTS, to ensure that students can effectively engage with the curriculum.
IMPORTANT NOTE ON EXCEPTIONS FOR LIBT STUDENTS: For LIBT students participating in pre-arranged progressions to our partner universities, it is generally recognised that English proficiency requirements are waived. Almost all partner universities accept the level of English taught and assessed at LIBT as sufficient proof of language ability to successfully engage in further studies.
This exemption reflects the rigorous standards of LIBT’s English instruction and the confidence of our partner institutions in our training and assessment methods.
STAYING INFORMED: Given the variability of English language requirements among universities, we recommend contacting our admissions team if you're interested in a top-up and English isn't your first language. By contacting enquiries@libt.co.uk, you can obtain the most up-to-date and specific information on the English proficiency criteria for your intended university and programme.
